ELECTROMYOGRAPHY (EMG)

An electromyogram (EMG) is the measurement and recording of the electrical activity of muscles at rest and during contraction. In NMD we use it to check and compare the tonicity of the muscles of mastication before and after the application of the ULF TENS. It also helps us to know when muscle fatigue pops in.

An EMG helps in evaluation of the following:

  • Abnormal electrical activity of muscle

  • Nerve compression or injury

  • Conditions with damaged muscle tissue, nerves, or the junctions between nerve and muscle

  • Cause of muscle weakness or muscle twitching

  • First tooth contact

  • Bilateral tonicity comparisons
