Due to misaligned jaw in TMD, the protective tissue that bonds teeth into the jaw gets damaged due to clenching/grinding. This causes growth of bacteria between the teeth and the jaw, leading to loose teeth and receding gums. Patient complains that his roots of the teeth are exposed and gums have receded. Periodontitis also happens due to faulty bites and an ensuing traumatic occlusion.
It is scary and painful to have receding gums.
