Although snoring is a common problem but none of us think that it can be symbol of disturbed respiration during sleep. Snoring can occur due to various factors but one of the most important is the malposition of the lower jaw. Even a little too far back of the lower jaw makes the tongue farther back than optimal. This leads to vibration of tongue against our soft palate that leads to closing off of our airway and hence causes snoring and disturbed sleep.
In most of the cases, patient himself does not complain of snoring but his sleeping partner complains about it. Patient only feels that his sleep is disturbed and he does not feel fresh in the morning even after full night’s sleep. These should not be ignored and patient should visit a NMD clinic for optimal check-up as these mildly looking symptoms can lead to OSA or even death due to suffocation.
