Biobloc appliances offer an alternative approach for arch development. Primarily utilized when MRC’s appliances cannot be used, Biobloc Stage 1 (BB1) is particularly effective for severe arch restrictions, especially transverse issues, when the BWS is not applicable. It is best suited for use in the primary or early mixed dentition and in cases where central incisors need to be approximated. While the Biobloc excels in expanding arches in all three dimensions quickly, it is technique-sensitive and may initially compromise patient function. The Biobloc Stage 3 (BB3) is reserved for patients with severe overjets who cannot retain their Myobrace® appliance. The BB1 is designed for efficient upper arch expansion, particularly transverse, and facilitates the approximation of incisors.
This course will explore the Biobloc appliance from a Neuromuscular Dentistry perspective. Participants will learn about its introduction, neurophysiology, and practical applications for both growing patients and adults. The program will include lectures and demonstrations on fabricating Biobloc appliances, showcasing various designs for pediatric use, and covering activation and application protocols.
