Sleep problems can affect concentration, mood, daytime alertness and overall health. Persistent insomnia, loud snoring, breathing pauses during sleep, excessive daytime sleepiness or waking unrefreshed may indicate a sleep disorder that needs proper evaluation.
At The Right Bite Sleep and TMJ Pain Care, our Sleep Specialist in Mumbai, patients with sleep-related breathing concerns can be assessed and, where appropriate, coordinated with sleep physicians, pulmonologists, ENT specialists and sleep laboratories.
The right treatment depends on the underlying sleep disorder, so diagnosis should come before treatment.

A sleep specialist evaluates persistent problems with sleep, daytime alertness and sleep-related breathing. Depending on your symptoms, assessment may involve a detailed sleep history, medical evaluation and sleep testing.
Consider professional evaluation if you experience repeated snoring, gasping during sleep, breathing pauses, excessive daytime sleepiness, persistent insomnia or other sleep problems that interfere with everyday functioning.
Because different sleep disorders require different approaches, the appropriate healthcare professional may include a sleep medicine physician, pulmonologist, ENT specialist, psychologist or a dentist trained in dental sleep medicine, depending on the diagnosis.
Consider consulting a sleep specialist if you regularly experience:
Loud or persistent snoring
Breathing pauses, choking or gasping during sleep
Excessive daytime sleepiness
Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
Unrefreshing sleep despite adequate time in bed
Repeated unusual movements or behaviours during sleep
Restless sensations in the legs
Persistent sleep problems affecting work or daily life
Symptoms alone cannot determine which sleep disorder is present. Your healthcare provider may recommend further evaluation or a sleep study depending on your symptoms and medical history.
Sleep Apnea Treatment
For obstructive sleep apnea, treatment may include lifestyle measures, positive airway pressure such as CPAP, oral appliance therapy or other treatments depending on the severity and individual clinical findings.
Oral Appliance Therapy
For selected adults with obstructive sleep apnea who cannot tolerate CPAP or prefer an alternative, a sleep physician may prescribe oral appliance therapy. A qualified dentist can then provide and monitor a custom appliance.
Clinical guidance recommends ongoing follow-up with both the qualified dentist and sleep physician when oral appliance therapy is used for obstructive sleep apnea.
Snoring Assessment
Persistent snoring can sometimes occur without sleep apnea, but loud snoring accompanied by breathing pauses, gasping or excessive daytime sleepiness should be assessed for a possible sleep-related breathing disorder.
Coordinated Sleep Care
Depending on the diagnosis, patients may need care involving sleep physicians, pulmonologists, ENT specialists, psychologists, physiotherapists or dental sleep medicine professionals.
Insomnia involves persistent difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep or getting restorative sleep despite having an adequate opportunity to sleep.
Chronic insomnia should be assessed separately from obstructive sleep apnea and other sleep-related breathing disorders.
For adults with chronic insomnia disorder, cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia, or CBT-I, is strongly recommended by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Medication may be considered depending on the individual diagnosis and clinical circumstances.
If persistent insomnia is your main concern, evaluation by an appropriate sleep medicine professional can help determine whether CBT-I, further investigation or another treatment approach is appropriate.
At The Right Bite, our sleep specialsist team in Mumbai evaluates sleep-related concerns such as snoring, disturbed breathing during sleep, excessive daytime sleepiness, insomnia and other symptoms affecting sleep quality. Our approach combines sleep-focused assessment, personalised treatment planning, sleep-study guidance and coordinated care with sleep physicians, pulmonologists, ENT specialists and sleep laboratories when required. For suitable patients, our team also provides dental sleep medicine options such as customised oral appliance therapy, supported by ongoing follow-up. With a multidisciplinary approach, condition-specific treatment and a dedicated Mumbai centre, we focus on identifying the underlying cause of sleep concerns rather than using the same treatment for every patient.
We assess snoring, breathing concerns, daytime sleepiness and sleep history before recommending treatment or further testing.
Your treatment plan is based on your symptoms, diagnosis and individual clinical needs rather than using the same approach for every patient.
Where required, we coordinate with sleep physicians, pulmonologists, ENT specialists and sleep laboratories for further evaluation and treatment.
